Ya Gotta Change Your Ways...

I'm 47 years old and I've got a lifetime of irresponsible spending habits under my belt. First of all, I'm not a saver. I'm a spender. I do not balance checkbooks. I do not look at my bank balance when the ATM spits out my receipt. I wake up in the middle of the night and obsess over my family's expenses.

Can I really change and take control of my finances?

I have to.

My husband is changing jobs in two weeks and our family will be forced to live on 15% less than we do now. It's a hefty pay cut, but when I think of other families who have husbands and wives out of work, some for months at a time, I realize I need to shut my complaining yap and suck it up.

I have two options: Earn more money (from writing or some other part-time job) and spend less each month.

Easy right? No. But I'm determined to do it. Over the next year, I'll be looking for ways to cut our living expenses while still enjoying luxury items like food, electricity and health insurance. I'll be looking to my friends, family and readers for money-saving tips and resources. Whatever I learn, I will pass along to you.

So join me on this ride, will you? It should be entertaining, though we won't be traveling first class.
